UV Protection for Cooler Covers

1 min read

Cover faded and tore at the hem in one season? Southwest sun destroys low-denier fabric — specify 600D+ with UV-stabilized coating and expect shorter life on exposed rooftops.

Need the quick reference first? UV-rated fabrics

Problem: One-Season Fabric Failure

High-desert UV breaks down cheap polyester fast — especially at hem contact points and anywhere the fabric rubs on casters or roof curbs. Fading is the visible sign; brittleness and tearing at stress points follow in the same season.

Solution: Spec for UV Exposure

  • 600D or higher polyester with UV-stabilized PU or vinyl coating
  • Darker colors fade slower than light colors on exposed sites
  • Rooftop and open yard storage → shortest lifespan; inspect hems yearly
  • Store folded in shade between seasons when possible

When to Replace vs Repair

Small hem fraying on an otherwise sound cover → repair tape or patch. Widespread brittleness or coating breakdown → replace — UV damage is through the fabric, not just the surface.
