Standard evaporative cooler cover sizes, custom sizing, and how to pick the right fit for side-draft, down-draft, and commercial units.
Standard Size Chart
Many residential swamp coolers fall into recurring cabinet footprints. Side-draft and window units often range from roughly 22×18×28 in. up to 40×40×45 in. Down-draft rooftop units commonly run 28×28×29 in. through 38×38×44 in. Commercial and industrial cabinets can exceed 50×50×54 in.
- Side-draft / wall-mount: typically narrower depth, wider width — verify electrical boxes on the exterior
- Down-draft / rooftop: allow extra height for vent caps and rain collars
- Round / cylindrical units: size by diameter and height, not rectangular W×D×H
- Always confirm against your actual measurements — model charts vary by brand and pad thickness
Custom Sizing
When your cabinet does not match a standard chart, custom covers are cut to your submitted dimensions. We add controlled slack on width and depth (typically 1–2 in.) unless you specify a compression fit for indoor storage. Height is usually matched closely to avoid pooling rain on flat tops.
- Submit outside dimensions in inches or millimeters — include photos for non-standard shapes
- Mixed batch orders: send a spreadsheet of unit sizes for multi-site rollouts
- No minimum order on small-batch custom line — prototypes available before bulk runs
- Lead time: commonly 10–14 business days for custom specs (confirm at quote stage)
How to Choose
Match cover type to installation: rooftop down-draft covers need drainage and wind tie-downs; side-draft covers need clearance for wall brackets; window units need frame-friendly hems. If the unit stays outdoors year-round in sun, prioritize UV-rated or reflective top panels over the lightest fabric.
- Between two sizes → size up, then adjust with elastic hem, drawcord, or straps
- Units with exterior junction boxes → request split-corner or notch openings
- High-wind roofs → choose 600D+ fabric and four-point tie-down
