Cooler Cover Maintenance Guide
Clean, store, and repair evaporative cooler covers to extend fabric life — by material type and season.
Regular Cleaning
Brush off dry dust monthly during the covered season. Wash once per year (or before off-season storage) with mild soap and cool water — never bleach unless the fabric supplier specifies it. Rinse thoroughly and air-dry fully before folding.
- Polyester / canvas: soft brush + mild detergent, cold water rinse
- Vinyl: wipe with damp cloth; avoid petroleum solvents
- Mesh: hose down gently; do not machine wash with agitators
- Insulated: spot-clean when possible to preserve foam core
Stain Removal
Treat bird droppings and sap promptly — they etch coatings if baked in sun. Use a soft cloth and diluted mild detergent; for stubborn marks on vinyl, a dedicated marine/vinyl cleaner is safer than household solvents.
- Act within 48 hours on organic stains
- No chlorine bleach on PU-coated polyester
- Test cleaner on an inside hem first
- Rinse soap residue — it attracts dust when dry
Seasonal Storage
Fold loosely along existing creases; do not compress insulated covers under heavy items. Store in a breathable bag or box in a dry, rodent-free space. Silica gel packs help in humid warehouses.
- Ensure cover is 100% dry before bagging
- Avoid hot attics above 120°F (49°C) for PVC-backed fabrics
- Hang large commercial covers on a rod if folding creases stress seams
- Label bag with size and model for faster reinstall next season
Repair Tips
Small tears in polyester can be patched with outdoor fabric repair tape or sewn with UV-rated thread. Replace torn grommets rather than pulling straps through ripped holes. Seams showing white PU failure may need professional re-coating or replacement on high-value commercial covers.
- Tape patches: round the corners of patch pieces to prevent peel
- Restitch loose hems before they propagate
- Replace missing drawcord before wind season
