Problem: Dry Climate Fabric, Wet Climate Install
600D PU polyester is the right default for dry Southwest winters — light rain beads off. On a rooftop where water pools after storms, or in coastal exposure, prolonged standing water wicks through stitched seams. Interior rust follows even when the cover "looks fine" from the ground.
Solution: Match to Worst Case, Not Average
- Water-resistant (600D PU) — dry climates, wall mounts, light rain only
- Waterproof (vinyl-coated) — rooftop ponding, heavy snow load, coastal rain
- If you see puddles on top after storms → upgrade to vinyl regardless of climate zone
Also Fix Drainage
Wrong fabric is not the only cause of interior wet — a sagging top pools water even on vinyl. Crown the top with strap tension so runoff reaches edges.
