Condensation inside a covered unit in a freezing yard? Insulation helps only after full drain/dry — it does not fix a wet pan or skipped shutdown.
Problem: Condensation in Cold Storage
Units sit in freezing equipment yards for months. Temperature swings inside a sealed cover can produce condensation on metal surfaces — even when the unit was shut down correctly.
Solution: Insulated Liner After Proper Shutdown
Insulation reduces temperature swing inside a dry, covered cabinet. Prerequisites still apply.
- Pan drained and dry — insulation does not stop mold from a wet shutdown
- Pads replaced or fully dried before cover goes on
- Use only after complete winterizing — see checklist
When Insulation Will Not Help
- Cover put on while pan still had water → mold regardless of liner
- Unit run with cover installed → overheating risk
- Substitute for drain/dry steps → always fails by spring
